Delegated designs

A delegated design is the sheet where the engineer of record hands the connection design to the fabricator: typical connection details, reaction tables, bolt and weld requirements, design loads. There is nothing on it to trace. You make it a scene so the copilot can read it and design the connections it asks for.

Create one

1. In the Build panel, click + New scene.
2. Name it, and choose Delegated design as the View type.
3. Choose the Page and Region the criteria are on.
4. Click Create.

A delegated design asks for no level and no grid lines. In the scene list it appears under its own Delegated designs heading once you have other kinds of scene too.

Design its connections

A delegated design opens as the region you built it on (only that part of the sheet), with a panel on the right. Scroll to zoom, drag to pan, and double-click to fit it again.

Keep your model open in Tekla. The connections are designed for the beams in it.

1. Click Summarize & design connections.
2. The copilot opens and reads the sheet, following any note that sends it to another sheet for the loads. It first writes a summary: the design method, bolts, welds and materials, the rules for minimum capacity, one line per connection type the sheet shows, and anything the sheet does not say.
3. For each connection type, it finds the matching connections in your model, for example every W12 framing into a girder for a detail marked TYP @ W12. It designs each one for its own beam and support at the load the sheet states.
4. Each one that passes is added to the package under the sheet's own detail mark, and appears in Designed connections. When one detail covers several connections, the marks get a, b, c on the end. Each addition asks for your approval in the chat, unless you have auto-approve on.
5. It finishes with a table of every connection: its mark, the beam and support, the load and where the load came from, whether it passed, and whether it is in the package.

A connection type that states no load is reported rather than designed to a guess. A design that fails is not added to the package; the copilot tells you what governed it. With no model open, the copilot summarizes the sheet and tells you it cannot add anything until the model is open.

You can also ask for this in the copilot chat yourself. For example: "Summarize the delegated design on S-501 and add its connections to the package."

Nothing here goes into Tekla

A delegated design has no detection steps and no Push to Tekla. What it produces is the project's connection designs.
